I don’t use nutritional yeast any more. It’s like $20 a bag full here in Tasmania (that’s IF you can find it in the first place). I made a tapioca based cheese and it sat in the fridge as Steve wasn’t keen on it but then in my “waste not want not” phase, I decided to throw it into a batch of bechamel and again, it was amazing. Sometimes it’s not the product that is wonderful but how you can use it that matters. We can’t get Follow your heart products here (heck, we don’t even have Earth Balance!) but I have found several interesting starch based egg replacement products on the net (recipes for how to make). The best vegan quiche we ever made was based on chickpea flour so I guess it really is horses for courses.

The gummy fruit snack making process is simple–just 3 ingredients and less than 10 minutes of active time. Whisk the sweetener and agar agar into the juice. Let it rest for 5 minutes. Simmer and whisk for 2 minutes. Pour into a container/molds. Chill. For the jam version, you will just blend the juice + jam + agar (to avoid jammy chunks) and then boil/whisk/chill it the same way.

A dense loaf, but not in a bad way. Whole grain spelt flour tends to make dense breads, but I just love the nutty flavour of spelt so I don’t mind. The walnuts, streusel, and raisins add just the right amount of sweetness and crunch and the zucchini gives moisture without needing any oil. You also can’t taste the zucchini at all, but you can see the pretty green flecks!

If you’re hungry or need a good solid snack before or after a workout, try almond milk, a banana, frozen berries, protein powder, and healthy fat such as chia, peanut butter or flax seeds.

i thought you would also want to know that there is a virus attached to your blog–when i go to your blog from google search, a blinking alert shows up in the place where your blog address was and tells me that there are viruses on my computer and then tells me to clean it– i thought it was valid because it was from microsoft essentials–my spyware–but then it downloaded something–i just took it off my computer–thank goodness! also, some of your recipes won’t print–it tells me there is insufficient memory to print (error in page script)–on some of them but on others it prints fine. just wanted to let you know! thanks for the great ideas!!!
One important note is be sure you use agar agar powder not flakes. I have tried it with the flakes before and it did not set up the same way. I have also tried making powder from the flakes in a coffee grinder–another fail. This is the agar agar powder I used because it was organic and relatively reasonably priced. Also the packaging was pretty, and I would be lying if I said that didn’t factor in.
Put the soy milk into your vitamix and add the drained sunflower seeds. Process till creamy. Add the tofu crumbled and everything else and process till creamy. Taste and adjust seasonings. This tastes seriously cheezy and would make a tasty dip or spread. I wonder if you added agar to this mix if it would be nice as a vegan cheeze. If you added a bit of tapioca to the mix (like that other vegan cheeze recipe) it would be melty as well.
I saw this post and have been meaning to check it out! I tried the whole home-made gummy snacks awhile back with agar (although i used flakes so maybe that was my problem…it was all that i could find at the store…although i always forget about looking online ha!). So my problem was that they weren’t gummy enough so wasn’t quite a fan of the texture. Still ate them and flavor was delicious, but was looking for that gummy factor since thats what the kids always go for…are these gummy in texture? If so i’m ALL on top of it! They look gorgeous btw…and love your random facts haha! I hate autocorrect sometimes =)

Tomato soup is full of disease-fighting nutrients, but contains as little as 74 calories per cup, no cholesterol, and less than 1 gram of saturated fat. Just keep in mind that there are many varieties. Cream of tomato is significantly higher in fat and calories. When buying canned soup, look for labels that say "low sodium" and check the calorie count.
What's more refreshing than a smoothie? By adding in the right ingredients, it will keep you full until your next meal. "Just blend together 1/2 cup frozen wild blueberries with half of a frozen banana, 1/3 cup low-fat milk, and 4 ounces low-fat plain Greek yogurt," Gorin says. "At just 210 calories, it's a winner: the wild blueberries offer filling fiber and antioxidants, you'll get added fiber from the banana, and the milk and yogurt provide protein."
